TRD Helps Get The Raybestos Rattlesnake™ Desert and Race Ready
Aug 12, 2013
The whole division is currently chomping at the bit to get their hands on the 2014 Toyota Tundra and help create the Raybestos Rattlesnake™ custom build, which will be given away this fall. “It’s going to be a really great vehicle to work with,” says Ted Moncure, the TRD Functional Accessory Engineering Manager.
“TRD is going to give the 2014 Tundra additional off-road capabilities as well as extra performance ability. That’s a really sweet spot of the market… extreme performance coupled with off-road muscle… and it’s exciting.”
The Raybestos Rattlesnake™ custom build will be a 4WD, 2014 Toyota Tundra pick-up with more than 600+ supercharged horsepower and a long travel suspension. The Raybestos Rattlesnake™ will also be equipped with a Raybestos® brand Racing short track brake package, as used by the JGR race team, and Raybestos® brand chassis parts.
TRD will install and tune a TRD supercharger, headers and a full stainless steel muffler exhaust with polished stainless steel tips. “It is going to have a pressurized air intake to allow the engine to breathe a lot better… like an engine twice its size,” Moncure said.
The Raybestos Rattlesnake™ will also have improved fuel economy and, after Moncure’s team of engineers and technicians get through with it, the 2014 Tundra will have thirty percent more horsepower and twenty five percent more torque.
Moncure says that all the Raybestos Rattlesnake™ capability numbers will be certified as well. “A lot of the numbers you see out there from other guys are not real, when push comes to shove. All our numbers will be certified,” he promised.
Moncure is an experienced Baja racer himself and says that the Raybestos Rattlesnake™ will own the desert. “This thing will whoop down roads and will have the torque to get up hills and push back,” said Moncure.
“It can go anywhere, do anything. There’s no silt bed [the Raybestos Rattlesnake™] cant bomb through. No hill it can’t blow past. It’s going to be awesome to get out in wide open space.”
TRD’s work will be taped and featured in an episode of Spike TV’s Trucks!, to be aired in early August.
